Someone said that during the first 30 kilometers of a marathon you run with your legs, the next 10 kilometers with your head, then the next 2 with your heart, and the last 195 meters with tears in your eyes. When you run in Venice, you start crying a little earlier—and of course, we are talking about tears of joy!
It is the joy of running in a unique place, during a special event, one of those experiences which leave a deep mark in the soul.
The VeniceMarathon has been the first marathon in Italy recognized by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races and is one of the few competitions of this kind recognized on an international level by the World Athletics (IAAF). And that is not only because it is run on a route rich in history, charm, and beauty. For this reason, three other races have been put side by side to the main event of the marathon in October. Two competition with the same appeal, but fewer kilometers.

One of the most fascinating in the world, the Venicemarathon now in its 37th edition, starts from Villa Pisani in Stra and arrives in the heart of Venice, joining in a “virtual embrace” an area rich in art, history, and culture. It will be a parade along the Riviera del Brenta, the historic center of Mestre and the green avenues of San Giuliano Park. The entrance into Venice, is from the port area of Santa Marta where the decisive 14 bridges begin—all equipped with platforms that facilitate their crossing and in line with regulations on the removal of architectural barriers. Athletes will run along the water on the Fondamenta delle Zattere, overlooking the Giudecca Canal, and cross the Grand Canal thanks to the pontoon bridge—specifically set up for the occasion—that connects Punta della Dogana to the former Giardini Reali. They will not miss the exciting ‘lap of honor’ in St. Mark’s Square and the finish, between two wings of the crowd, in Riva Sette Martiri, near the Giardini della Biennale.

The VeniceMarathon will be combined with its sister races Venice Half Marathon (new 2022) and the VM10K, which will start respectively from Mestre near Piazza Ferretto, and San Giuliano Park in Mestre, and then converge on the same spectacular course as the Venicemarathon to Riva Sette Martiri, the single finish line of all three races.
