Venice explodes with colors in David Ariel’s paintings

David Ariel’s Galleria Levantina is not a place that goes unnoticed. On the contrary, when you come across it, you immediately realize that it is an evocative and fascinating place.
Even those who love pale colors appreciate the chromatic impact chosen by David to represent Venice on his canvas. A new and unexpected Venice is shown to those who, maybe by chance, enter the colorful world of this artist.

Following his motto “Color is life,” David Ariel gives strength and emotion to his personal narration of the city on water. Thanks to reflexions, “moving” shapes, and vibrant colors, his paintings are original and unique works of art.

On David’s canvases, Venice shows all its beauty. Amazing glimpses of the city live a new life under a new light. With a blast of emotion, colors give a new, striking, powerful, and harmonious voice to places well known by Venetians.

Even in the chromatic contrast, balance is the fundamental pillar in David Ariel’s paintings. The materiality of color and the emotions that spring out of it compose his images. When you look at them, you never get distracted by the vibrance of the colors, on the contrary, the eyes follow the contours, distinguish the borders, and–on an emotional level–absorb the narrative impetus.

The added value in this discovery is David himself, his welcoming personality that takes guests into his world with the spontaneity of someone who is used to sharing experiences, journeys, and to telling stories with enthusiasm and passion.

Without any doubt, David is man who moves against the tide, where the tide is the national “system of galleries.” Although he was not born in Venice, after many years in the city he considers himself a “lucky lagoon creature.” Some years ago, on his way to open his atelier and gallery in Amsterdam, he finally decided to settle in Venice, to work far from the usual patterns and, most of all, in constant dialogue with people.

«I want to move people’s feelings as much as I have been, and still am, moved by this city! I like to strike people’s emotions, in particular when, through my works, I allow to be half-seen what I feel inside, and what the person in front of me feels, too! I just do a small part of the work, then. The people who look at my paintings are those who complete the artwork with their ability to understand what is at the same time on the canvas and inside themselves. If you give love, what you receive in exchange is extraordinary, this is what strikes people.»

After a while, David’s work started to be noticed, and now he can count several invitations to exhibitions, from USA to Europe, and recently also Japan. «I don’t use “trash” images. That’s why I use Venice as a stand, as a starting point—says the artist proudly—in fact, Venice is so beautiful that it can shock. It fills your mind with new and contrasting emotions. Here, you can see and experience the flavor and the love coming from a unique and wonderful place».

«When I arrived here, I had no laboratory, no home, nothing. And I have been welcomed by fantastic people, from a city of dreams. This is the dream that I am living and that I like to narrate to the visitors who are surprised by the liveliness of the city, which is not a museum, but a living thing that gives, and receives, much of love».

David’s work is not only art but a sensitivity and commitment toward the environment, since he is one of the first in Italy to use only cotton and recycled plastic canvases coming from the plastic collected in the sea, without any loss in the quality of the material.

There are two places in Venice where you can experience the colorful and artistic Venice by David Ariel: one Galleria Levantina is close to Santa Lucia train station, the other is in Calle dei Boteri, near Rialto.
