At the Padiglione Centrale and at Corderie dell’Arsenale, five time capsules—disseminated along the visit itinerary—explore the main themes of the exhibition. These micro-exhibits gather pieces, artworks, documents, and handcrafts from several museums and collections, putting them in conversation with the pieces by contemporary artists that surrounds them.

This edition of the International Art Exhibition presents two Special Projects. The first is held at Forte Marghera (Mestre) in the building of the former Austrian Armory. The second is presented at the Sale d’Armi of the Arsenale (deposit for the armaments of the Serenissima Republic), which–for the sixth year–is the venue of the Padiglione delle Arti Applicate (Pavilion of Applied Arts) in collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, this year under the title Tiger Strike Red.

On show as well, out of competition, are the four finalist projects by the artists participating in the first edition of the Biennale Art College, which involved 250 young talents under 30.

The 79 invited Countries exhibit in their National Pavilion at Giardini, Arsenale, or in temporary venues all over the city of Venice, as well as the 30 Collateral Events approved by the curator.
Republic of Cameroon, Namibia, Nepal, Sultanate of Oman, and Uganda participate to the Biennale International Art Exhibition for the first time.
