Austrian Railways ÖBB also connects the city of Bolzano directly to Vienna with modern Railjets
• Bolzano/Bozen – Bressanone/Brixen – Fortezza/Franzenfeste – Innsbruck – Salisburgo – Linz – Vienna
and by EuroCity trains connect Trieste to Vienna via Slovenia:
• Trieste – Postojna – Ljubljana – Maribor – Graz – Vienna, which from December 14, 2025, will become TRIESTE – UDINE – TARVISIO – VILLACH – KLAGENFURT – GRAZ – VIENNA.
In fact, from December 14, 2025, the new direct rail link between Trieste and Vienna will be operational with modern Railjet Xpress (RJX) trains, via Udine and Tarvisio. Thanks also to the opening of the Koralm base tunnel (Coralmtunnel), travel time will be significantly reduced. In addition, by changing in Udine, a third connection from Venice to Vienna will be available, thus offering new travel possibilities between northeastern Italy and Austria.
