String quartets and soloists: the best talents in San Giorgio

Now in its fourth edition, the ARCHIPELAGO concert series, held in the spaces of the Squero on the Island of San Giorgio, involves excellent young chamber groups together with soloists for an important stage in their career through a period of residency and study to perfect pieces in new formations and develop new projects. Artistic Direction is entrusted to Simone Gramaglia (artistic director of Le Dimore del Quartetto) who, in addition to selecting the musicians in agreement with Gioventù Musicale d’Italia and Fondazione Walter Stauffer, proposes the musical programs inspired by the spaces.

For each ARCHIPELAGO 2022 event, it is possible to request a guided tour of the Cini Foundation, with itineraries that end in the spaces to which the musical program of the concert at the Squero is inspired.
It will be possible to participate in the guided tours organized by D’Uva srl before the concerts, at 5 p.m. www.visitcini.com/archipelago-concerti-squero/

CONCERTS PROGRAM

Friday, September 30, 2022 6:30 p.m.
concert by the AGATE QUARTET and ELEONORA TESTA, cello
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 – 1750) – Counterpoint No. 5, The Art of the Fugue, BWV 1080
György Ligeti (1923 – 2006) – String Quartet No. 1 “Nocturnal Metamorphoses”
Luigi Boccherini (1743 – 1805) – Quintet Op. 30 No. 6 in C major “The Night Music of the Streets of Madrid”

The concert focuses on the theme of spirituality in some of its many declinations. Given that music has always been considered an expression of the human intellect and soul and, therefore, would suffice for itself regardless of what is played, the musicians want to represent here three different perspectives: that of a spirituality devoted to the search for and glorification of God—through Bach—that of metamorphosis, a fundamental characteristic of the soul, always in search and always becoming—through Ligeti—and that of one of the moments of the soul, the night, and one of the moods of the soul, lightness—through the music of Boccherini.
5 p.m. Visit to the Cini Foundation ending at Vatican Chapels.

Friday, October 28, 2022 7:00 p.m.
concert by the KARSKI QUARTET and FABRIZIO BUZZI, double bass
Original piece written by C. Carovani
Franz Joseph Haydn (1732 – 1809) – Quartet op. 33 no. 2 “The Joke”
Antonin Dvorák (1841 – 1904) – String Quintet No. 2 in G major, op. 77

The program is a demonstration of how contemporary and classical can complement each other well, enhancing each other. This is the talent of history, as architect De Lucchi defines the layering of interventions on the space of the Nuova Manica Lunga, now home to the library complex created in the spaces of the former dormitory of the Benedictine monastery.
5 p.m. Visit to the Cini Foundation concluding at the Teatro Verde.
