Until April 30, 2023, the Institute for Childhood “Santa Maria della Pietà” will host Modigliani Opera Vision, an immersive exhibition that “envelops” visitors in the work of the great painter from Livorno, using the most innovative tools made available by modern technologies.

Amedeo Modigliani–coeval of the cubist movement–lived in Venice for some years of his life, studying at the Accademia di Belle Arti. While in Venice, Modigliani used to live in a house in Fondamenta San Basegio where, since 2002, a plaque quotes an excerpt from a letter addressed to a colleague and dear friend of his, Oscar Ghiglia. The passage reads: «Dearest Oscar, I received the most precious teachings in life from Venice. I feel that Venice has made me grow, just like after an important work.»

In Venice, Modigliani integrated into the circle of artists living in town, like Umberto Boccioni and Ardengo Soffici. He used to frequent cafes rather than attending courses, but often visited the city museums, where he would study the artworks by great art masters.

Virtual reality – the immersive experience at the exhibition Modigliani Opera Vision

In Paris, where he died at the early age of 36 in January 1920, Modigliani brought the tradition of Italian painting and of Macchiaioli painters, translating what he learned in his homeland into extraordinarily erotic nudes, enigmatic portraits, and hieratic sculptures, which he suddenly had to abandon due to his precarious health conditions.

In four halls of the exhibition itinerary, visitors can find augmented reality viewers, 4k holograms, and a 360 degrees screen showing a fascinating docufilm about his life, his world, and his art.

The roof-top terrace at Palazzo La Pietà

The exhibit, curated by the Amedeo Modigliani Foundation, is organized on three floors. One floor is completely dedicated to Modì, while the other two are a true cultural hub where Biennale Fondazione Amedeo Modigliani presents various contemporary artists. Here, 90 exhibition spaces in 19 halls host a continuous turnover of eclectic artworks realized with various art techniques.

On top of all that, the amazing panoramic roof-top terrace among the roofs of Venice, which gives a unique view on San Giorgio Island and the rest of the city: art and beauty, indoor and outdoor, this is Venice.
